The term Regio abyssalis etymologically refers to the “abyssal zone”: a territory of extreme depth associated with the abyss, with that which remains hidden and suspended within invisible layers of memory and consciousness. The series proposes a symbolic immersion into the inner spaces of the self, exploring our capacity to remember, observe, and reconstruct ourselves through the traces of the unconscious.

This body of work originates from the relationship between matter and memory. Through the use of paper pulp, recycled paper, watercolor, acrylic paint, and PLA structures created with a 3D pen, the pieces acquire an organic and fragmentary condition that evokes eroded surfaces, archaeological remains, or emotional cartographies. Paper —a recurring material in my artistic practice— operates as a sensitive container of traces and vestiges: a material capable of absorbing, preserving, and revealing marks of time and experience.

The series resonates with the ideas of Carl Jung, who understood water as one of the deepest and most universal symbols of the unconscious. In Regio abyssalis, aquatic imagery becomes a metaphor for psychic depths, emotional flow, and processes of inner transformation. The transparencies, superimpositions, and textures present in the works suggest layers of memory that continuously emerge and recede, like bodies suspended within an abyssal space.

Each piece becomes a territory for contemplation and introspection, inviting the viewer to observe what lies submerged beneath the surface of consciousness: fragmented memories, latent emotions, and forms of identity in constant reconstruction.
